The winter
night is shattered,
The silence
broken,
By the cry
of a lone wolf
She stalks
through the dark in search of a companion.
With no pack
of her own,
She cries
out.
Her ears
perked,
And her nose
to the ground,
She follows
a trail al her own,
Longing for
a companion to keep her warm in the night.
She stops
by a stream for a drink.
Up her head
suddenly jerks
A noise ahead
she hears.
She stares
into the dark,
Looking,
Listening.
Then she sees
him.
Slowly emerging
from the woods accross the stream
She watches
him move to the stream.
The white
wolf glances at her,
And calmly
lowers his head to drink.
She lays
down to watch him.
The white
wolf sits and cleans himself,
Then looks
long and hard at the lone one..
She sits
up quick and looks back at him.
Their eyes
lock for an instant.
He calmly
turns around and returns to the woods.
Although cautious
she decides to follow.
There she
finds him laying under a tree,
Starring
her way.
Slowly cautiously
she makes her way towards him.
They stare
long into each others eyes.
She licks
his face and his ears
He licks
hers.
And so she
lays beside him his head atop hers
And as she
drifts off she wonders.
Is this the
one she seeks?
And somewhere
on the distance she hears a pack howling.
And together
she and her new friend let out a howl of their own.
As one.
